Lisa Molefe, a resident of Gaborone has shocked her community after admitting that she faked her husband’s death in an elaborate scheme to claim his life insurance and other benefits. The revelation has left friends, family, and neighbors stunned as they grapple with the extent of her deception.
According to sources, Molefe’s husband, who had been away for work, was unaware that she had reported him as deceased. Molefe allegedly went to great lengths to make the scheme appear legitimate, even staging a mock funeral and processing documents with the assistance of forged paperwork. Her goal, investigators reveal, was to access her husband’s life insurance payout and other benefits, which would have provided her with a substantial sum.
Family members first grew suspicious when they noticed inconsistencies in her story. “She said he died in a remote accident, but there were no official reports or any clear details. It felt odd, but we trusted her,” said a family friend. When her husband, who had been out of country on business, returned home unexpectedly, Molefe’s secret unraveled in dramatic fashion.He later revelled that he had visited a revered traditional healer,Dr Mawanda Shafiq in Zambia after being suspicious of his wife’s intentions for quite long.
Authorities were notified, and Molefe eventually admitted to fabricating the entire story. She allegedly cited financial struggles as the reason behind her actions, claiming that she had been under significant pressure to support her family and saw the insurance payout as a solution to her problems.
The community is still reeling from the scandal, as many had supported Molefe through what they thought was a legitimate period of mourning. Neighbors who attended the fake funeral expressed anger and disbelief over the betrayal. “We came together to support her, only to find out it was all a lie. It’s heartbreaking,” said one neighbor.
